Although the field has generated an impressive body of knowledge, we still have an incomplete understanding of toxic leadership. We conduct a systematic literature review of toxic leadership research so we can create a solid foundation for knowledge production and theory development within this literature. This project aimed to survey the literature on toxic leadership, identify all empirical evidence and extract attributes in the nurse workers of a useful list for early toxic leadership detection. A 14-article sample that focused on attributes with markers considered pivotal for the early detection of toxic leadership was used to ensure the selection of appropriate explicit articles that follows a transparent and reproducible search strategy.
